Chronic Kidney Disease in Children Prospective Cohort Study (CKiD)

What is the trial about?

The purpose of this research study is to investigate what factors cause chronic kidney disease (CKD) to become worse in children and to see how CKD affects a child’s brain development, behavior, heart function, growth and general well-being.

Who can participate?

Children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years who have chronic kidney disease.

What is involved?

Depending on when you enter the study, your participation may last for about five years. There will be two study visits during your first year and then one visit per year after that. Study visits will take about four to five hours to complete.

Visits include physical exams, blood tests, urine tests, echocardiogram, blood pressure monitoring, cardiac MRI, physical activity monitoring, cognitive ability tests, behavior and emotion questionnaires and other questionnaires.
