Services We Offer

Our hospital school program offers a variety of educational services tailored to each patient’s needs. These services are designed to help promote academic continuity and minimize educational disruptions caused by illness or hospitalization. Educational services include:

Access to Educational Resources

We provide access to instructional materials, technology (such as laptops or tablets) and online resources to help support learning within the hospital setting. This ensures that patients have the tools they need to stay on top of schoolwork. We also help inform families about the educational services and resources available through the public school district. This includes providing information about special education services, 504 plans, temporary homebound instruction and other support services that may benefit the child.

Individualized Instruction and Tutoring

Our school program offers 1:1 instruction and tutoring, either at bedside or in the hospital classroom, to help prevent learning gaps that may occur due to prolonged absences from school. Educational sessions are scheduled around patients’ treatments, appointments and/or therapies. This flexibility ensures that educational activities are incorporated into the patient’s daily routine without interfering with medical care. Participation in structured learning activities also helps patients maintain a sense of normalcy and routine during lengthy hospital stays.

Educational Assessments

We conduct assessments to identify patients’ learning needs, inform instructional planning and monitor academic progress. Assessment results guide our hospital teachers in planning and implementing appropriate educational activities and interventions that are aligned with patients’ current academic level, interests and developmental needs.

Communication With Schools

With authorization from the family, we can contact your child’s home school and teachers to coordinate educational activities, share progress updates and ensure alignment with academic goals. This coordination ensures continuity of learning and facilitates reintegration into the school environment after discharge.

Collaboration With Health Care Team

We also work closely with the health care team, including doctors, nurses and therapists, to integrate educational goals into the overall treatment plan and support a holistic approach to patient care. With authorization, we can share relevant health information with the school to ensure that your child’s educational plan addresses both their academic and medical needs.

School Re-Entry Support

Returning to school after a prolonged absence can be both overwhelming and stressful for children and their families. Our hospital school program provides individualized school re-entry support to ensure a smooth transition back to school. This includes assisting with school-required documentation, providing recommendations for accommodations and collaborating with school personnel to develop an appropriate educational plan.
