Getting to Know Your Child’s Leukemia Team
It takes a lot of teamwork to address all the needs of a child with leukemia. Your child’s care management team provides a sense of home and stability during treatment. In the ¾Ã¾Ã¾Ã¾Ã¾Ã¾Ã¾Ã¾«Æ· family, think of them like immediate family members. This team includes your:
- Hematologist/oncologist (a doctor who specializes in blood disorders and cancer)
- Primary nurse
- Primary social worker
- Child Life specialists
- Pediatric psychologists familiar with cancer diagnosis and treatment

Leukemia Specialists
Our leukemia specialists are nationally recognized cancer experts. They include:
- Transplant physicians (stem cell transplant specialists)
- Geneticists (specialists in genetic counseling and testing)
- Immunologists (autoimmune disorder specialists)
- Pathologists (physicians who diagnose diseases by examining body tissues, fluids and organs)
- Radiation oncologists (specialists in radiation therapy)
- Interventional radiologists (physicians who perform image-guided minimally invasive procedures)
Certified Hematology/Oncology Nurses
Our experienced nurses use their special expertise in pediatric cancer to help you navigate diagnosis and treatment. They include fertility preservation coordinators and transplant and cellular therapy nurse coordinators.

Our leukemia support team cares for your family’s mental, spiritual, developmental, social and cultural health. Staff that provide childhood cancer resources and support services include:
